Welcome to the OBGA / Alumni Association

WCS OBGA

The Whanganui Collegiate School Old Boys & Girls Association came into being on 12 July 1889. Mr Walter Empson, then Headmaster, was elected as first President.

Events

The Old Boys’ and Girls’ Association (OBGA) hosts events that celebrate tradition and strengthen the lifelong bonds of WCS alumni through reunions, annual gatherings, and milestone occasions.

Collegiate Connect events, by contrast, are designed to bring together the wider school community - including alumni, past and current parents, staff, and friends - in more informal settings across the country.

Together, these two streams of events ensure there are opportunities for both alumni-focused traditions and broader community engagement.

Our Publications

Whanganui Collegiate School has a proud tradition of keeping our community informed and connected through its publications.

The Collegian, first published in 1883, chronicles school life, achievements, and stories across generations, capturing the spirit of each era.

The Bulletin, introduced in 1981, provides regular updates, news, and features for alumni, parents, and friends of the School.

Together, these publications celebrate our history while keeping the Collegiate community engaged with the present.

Museum & Archives

Our collection contains thousands of photographs, plans, documents, minute books, memorabilia, trophies, uniforms, and records of drama, music, sport, and war service. They trace the evolution of WCS from its earliest days on Victoria Avenue to the present campus.

A complete run of The Collegian since April 1883 offers a unique record of school life and wider social history, now available in a searchable digital format. The Museum’s resources are being progressively digitised and linked to the Old Boys and Girls Association database for easier access.

OBGA Fees Assistance

Each year, the Old Boys’ Association offers Alumni Scholarships to support students with a family connection to Whanganui Collegiate. Eligible recipients must be the child of an Old Boy or have a close family link, with scholarships contributing towards a percentage of tuition fees.
