At the heart of Whanganui Collegiate School is a dedicated, on-site museum that brings the School’s rich history to life. Located within the School grounds, the museum offers students, Old Boys, families, and visitors the opportunity to step inside the story of WCS and experience nearly two centuries of tradition, achievement, and community.
The Museum and Archives house thousands of photographs, original plans and documents, minute books and meeting records, memorabilia, trophies, uniforms, drama and music production records, sporting histories, Old Boys’ war records, and newspaper clippings. Together, these collections document the evolution and progress of WCS from the earliest days of the first school and the Old School on Victoria Avenue (1867–1910), through to the establishment and growth of the School on its current site.
The full collection of Collegian magazines from the 1st edition of April 1883 gives great insight into not only life and times of the School, but also into local and national social history. Our digital version facilitates wide access and efficient searching.
The Museum’s resources are being digitised onto an Archives database, permitting individual photographs and other records to be searched; these are also being linked to the Old Boys and Girls Association database.
